TCT 2013 requirements

May 27, 2013New production requirements coming with this year’s TCT 2013. These are changes in the older production specifications, and are meant to address some issues that have arisen during recent live case transmissions.

First, is the requirement for a return video feed from the satellite uplink or fiber optic encoder. During a recent transmission, a company used to linked, no video based “AV” switchers to generate the live case feeds. When an problem occurred with image quality, it could not be readily addressed. A return feed would have helped.

Second, is a change to testing procedures for the uplink trucks and fiber optic circuits. “Test early, test often” is the new mantra! It’s worth the extra costs – and calls in the middle of the night – to make sure the transmission you arranged in another part of the world is working and ready to go.
